NEW DELHI, Jul 10: Afghanistan Minister Mawlawi Attaullah Omari on Friday sought India's cooperation to modernise its farming, livestock and irrigation practices with advanced technologies, highlighting the long-standing ties between the two nations. The minister, who is on a visit to India, met Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar and discussed areas of mutual interest, including agricultural research and development. Omari also expressed his country's interest in learning from India's experience in dairy farming and animal husbandry. He mentioned that Afghanistan is keen to adopt modern farming techniques to enhance food security and improve the livelihoods of its farmers. "We believe that with India's support, we can transform our agricultural sector," Omari said. He also touched upon the importance of water management and sought India's expertise in developing sustainable irrigation systems. The minister's visit comes at a time when Afghanistan is looking to rebuild its economy and infrastructure, with agriculture playing a crucial role. India has historically been a close partner of Afghanistan and has contributed significantly to its development projects. The two sides agreed to explore further avenues of collaboration in the agricultural domain, including capacity building and knowledge sharing.
